If Chelsea has a Russian problem – what about Everton?

28/02/2022

The US targeted Alisher Usmanov (b. 1953) in January 2018. The US Treasury included Usmanov [@91] on its list of 96 Russian oligarchs according to Section 241 of the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA). However, he was not among the seven oligarchs sanctioned on April 6, 2018, and is currently not featured on any sanctions list.

Will his further involvement be curtailed?

More info…..

Alisher Usmanov is the majority shareholder of MegaFon and owns a controlling stake - and is the founder - of USM, with Ivan Streshinsky and Everton owner Farhad Moshiri also on the board.

As reported January 15, 2020

  1. Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov has increased his investment in the English soccer team, Everton. He has paid 30 million pounds ($39 million) for the rights to name the club's proposed new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium, the Premier League club's 2018-2019 financial statement

  2. Everton's training facility has since 2017 been sponsored by USM, a holding company established by the 66-year-old Usmanov who is a friend and long-time business partner of Farhad Moshiri, the British-Iranian who is the team's majority shareholder.
  3. Connected with the Kremlin's ruling elite, the Russian tycoon's first foray into English soccer owned a 30-per cent stake in London team Arsenal, which he sold to US national Stan Kreonke for $700 million in cash in August 2018.
  4. His USM, in which Moshiri is invested, now has a deal for the first option of naming rights once the new stadium is near completion.

Alisher Usmanov (b. 1953) is one of Russia's wealthiest businessmen. Forbes magazine estimates his net worth at  $15.3B REAL TIME NET WORTH as of 2/28/22

And as noted earlier in January 2018, the US Treasury included Usmanov [@91] on its list of 96 Russian oligarchs according to Section 241 of the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA). However, he was not among the seven oligarchs sanctioned on April 6, 2018, and is currently not featured on any sanctions list.
