JFSC has EXTENDED consultation on criminal background checks for principals and key persons

21/03/2025

On 29 January 2025, the JFSC opened a consultation on enhancements to criminal background checks for principals and key persons.

Since the consultation, the JFSC has advised that:-

  • The consultation has been extended and is now planned to close on Wednesday, 26 March 2025.

The JFSC says:-

  • After receiving positive feedback through the JFSC drop-in sessions, meetings with industry trade bodies and associations, and the JFSC survey, the engagement has highlighted
    • That while there is agreement in principle on the introduction of a criminal record certificate requirement, further consideration is needed regarding the practical application and potential unintended consequences for specific sectors.
  • To make sure the JFSC can respond effectively to your valued responses, the JFSC is extending the publication date of the consultation feedback and will confirm this on the JFSC website in due course.
    • The JFSC consultation closes on Wednesday, 26 March 2025.
  • There is still time to share your feedback – for guidance on how to do this, read the JFSC consultation paper on enhancements to criminal background checks for principals and key persons.
