JFSC update: Common sense prevails: Sanctions: one source, one check, no breach

JFSC is to stop separate sanctions email alerts from 10 August 2026 – Government of Jersey notices become the single source.

• The JFSC has announced an important change to how sanctions notifications are distributed.

The issue and the resolution:

• The JFSC has been sending its own sanctions email alerts while the Government of Jersey already issues official sanctions notices (published in the Jersey Gazette).
• Supervised persons were required under Code of Practice 65 to sign up to both.
• By stopping the separate JFSC alerts from 10 August 2026 and making the GOVERNMENT OF JERSEY NOTICES THE SINGLE SOURCE, the change:
• Removes the need for firms to monitor and manage two overlapping notification streams.
• Eliminates redundant emails covering the same sanctions information.
• Simplifies the compliance obligation from 10 August; being signed up to the Government of Jersey notices alone is enough to meet the requirement (the formal Code of Practice wording will be updated later, on 31 October 2026, to reflect this).
• It also aligns with industry feedback that Handbook changes are easier to manage when grouped into fewer, scheduled updates rather than issued piecemeal.
• The sanctions amendment is therefore being bundled with the already-planned October 2026 Handbook updates on the Money Laundering Compliance Officer and Reliance changes.
• IN SHORT:
• Less duplication for firms, cleaner official sourcing, and a more efficient regulatory update process.

Key points

• From 10 August 2026, the JFSC will stop sending separate sanctions email alerts.
• From that date, the Government of Jersey sanctions notices (published on the Jersey Gazette) will be the single official source of this information.
• Supervised persons are already required to sign up for the Government of Jersey sanctions notices. Moving to a single source removes duplication.

What happens next – Code of Practice 65 update

• The JFSC will update Code of Practice 65 on 31 October 2026
• Grouped with the already-planned Handbook updates reflecting the Money Laundering Compliance Officer and Reliance changes, following industry feedback that fewer scheduled Handbook updates are easier to manage.
• Current Code of Practice 65
• Requires a supervised person to sign up to receive sanctions e-mail alerts from the JFSC and sanctions notices from the Government of Jersey (publicly available on the Jersey Gazette).
• From 31 October 2026
• The Code will be amended to reflect that only the Government of Jersey sanctions notices are required (exact amended wording will appear in the October Handbook update).
• Important transitional point
• As the JFSC will no longer issue sanctions alerts from 10 August 2026, from that date supervised persons will meet their obligations in this area provided they are signed up to the Government of Jersey sanctions alerts.

1. Confirm the correct individuals in your organisation are registered for Government of Jersey sanctions notices.
2. Update internal procedures, compliance manuals and MLCO/MLRO checklists to remove reliance on JFSC sanctions emails with effect from 10 August 2026.
3. Retain evidence of registration and of the internal communication of the change.
4. Watch for the formal Code of Practice 65 amendment in the 31 October 2026 Handbook update.
