JOIC Audit focusing on the JERSEY HEALTH SECTOR – FINDINGS AND LESSONS LEARNED

27/03/2025

JOIC have completed a Virtual Compliance Audit focusing on a health sector which processes significant volumes of special category personal data.

The Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018 grants the JOIC the authority to conduct data protection audits.

The lessons learned

As shown in the diagram above, the lessons learned are instructive to all organisations in Jersey that handle the personal data of individuals.

They are:
All staff must have adequate knowledge of breach reporting and the relevant thresholds.
Data protection training should be undertaken at regular intervals, ideally at least once every 6-12 months.
Organisational data protection policies and procedures should be effective in covering the processing of personal data.
Access to information and systems should be appropriately administered and restricted to mitigate confidentiality risks.
