Who is an HIO?

In most jurisdictions, “All reporting entities (REs)” are required to identify and apply EDD on politically exposed persons (PEPs) and senior executives of state-owned corporations [SOEs].

But there are also heads of international organizations (HIOs). An HIO is a primary person who leads an international organization. For example, the HIO could be a president or CEO.

And the international organization that they head or were head of is either:

1. An international organization established by the governments of states;
2. An institution of an organization referred to in 1 above; or
3. An international sports organization.
4. An institution established by an international organization does not have to operate internationally and it is possible that an institution only operates domestically, or in one jurisdiction.
